Durjoy Dutta, “Writer in Our Ears” – Atulya Yatra

Durjoy Dutta as a writer wants to tell stories in any medium. Dutta’s new audiobook The opposite of love Releasing on November 24, it breaks away from slices of romance and suspense. The audiobook is laced with a sense of revenge about trauma and the friction of redemption.

Dutta was still in college at the time of his first novel Of course I love you! Published. Today the author of 22 books, he is mobbed by his devoted readers every time he enters the author’s room. Also a screenwriter for television shows, Dutta has a refreshing wit and finds resonance with his enthusiastic audience.

In a recent interview with MetroPlus, the author took us through his new audiobook The opposite of love. Explaining the title of the book, Dutta says, “The opposite of love Dhiman and Amal have nothing in common except one painful incident in the past. What explains the title is that they are such polar opposites that you wouldn’t expect them to be in love.

Dhiman is a well-traveled travel influencer, and to him, travel is meaningless. On the other hand, Amal is a college student who has enough money to go on her first international trip. They both met at the airport.

Unlike his previous novels, love is not an overarching concept, but plays a minor role in the plot where the main characters try to end the past as a suspenseful story.

Talking about the intersection of love and technology, the author says “The rules of romance are still the same. Technology has exposed us to different sides that we had before but we didn’t explore it. The old romance didn’t have enough challenges.

The novel is Dutta’s third book with Audible. Of the very new medium, he says, “It’s a little more immersive experience than books because the author is in your ear and he’s telling you the story. It takes a lot of pressure from the writer to move the reader to a particular scene.

When asked if there was any autobiographical element hidden behind characters with similar names like Dheeren, Dhiman and Deep (in his other novels), the author laughed and admitted that if the characters were given a specific name, the book would usually be successful. “It’s irrational but I can live with that irrationality,” he added.

The idea behind the book came to him while talking to a friend. “My friend told me that I am very lucky to travel to all these cities and that I am very ungrateful for what I am getting. That’s when the seed started and I created characters and drama around it. ”

At the end of the conversation the author says that his identity is tied to his writing. Apologizing for speaking in the third person, he says, “I can’t imagine a non-writer Durjoy.” Although he wishes to be a cricketer or cricket commentator in an alternate reality.
